Demand Transparency: Stop the Menoher Boulevard bait-and-switch
Tell officials to protect the integrity of our zoning laws.
The Duca Funeral Home secured a permit to build a simple storage building on Menoher Boulevard. Then it tried to sneak in a commercial crematory incinerator in the middle of our neighborhood.
Westmont Borough officials rightly called foul and issued a stop-work order. To bypass this order, the business would have to ask the zoning board to bail it out with a variance.
The local zoning and permitting process exists for a reason: to protect communities, ensure public safety and give residents a voice.
Granting this variance would reward an intentional end-run around the law and set a dangerous precedent of build first, beg for forgiveness later.
Tell Westmont to Reject Any Crematory Variance
The facts are clear:
A zoning variance isn’t a safety net for a business that ignores the law and the will of the community.
Every local applicant must play by the same rules. No business should be allowed to radically change the nature of a project without obtaining proper approvals first.
Westmont families and neighbors deserve honesty about what’s going on in their neighborhood and a genuine opportunity for input.
Westmont already set a precedent years ago by rejecting a similar crematory proposal in a residential area. Stay consistent and accountable.
Westmont’s comprehensive plan explicitly states its goal is to preserve the borough primarily as a residential area.
